The Gozitan Journalists Association organised a Mass last Wednesday to mark the occasion of the feast of St. Francis de Sales, a Bishop of Geneva, and the Patron Saint of journalists.
The Mass, which was celebrated last Wednesday, was held in the church of the Franciscan Sisters of the Heart of Jesus in Palm Street, Victoria, for the journalists, writers and broadcasters of Gozo.
In the absence of the Bishop of Gozo Mgr Mario Grech, Mgr. Savl Grima, conveyed these thoughts in his homily.
He said that the apostolate can be administered in many ways, including through word of mouth, by broadcast channels and other media – hoping to reach more listeners.
Mgr. Grima said that, through the Parable of the Sower, Jesus explains that spoken words do not always find people who want to listen to them, the same goes for the printed word.
He added that, journalistic work remains necessary, and those involved in it will know that it does not always achieve the desired fruit, sometimes even discouraging people, just as that seed did that fell on different soil.
