Public consultation open on regeneration of St Francis Square in VictoriaThe Minister for Gozo, Justyne Caruana, has launched a consultation process on the regeneration of St. Francis Square.

During the meeting the preliminary design of the project was presented, which was followed by comments and suggestions from the public.

“The work related to the regeneration of the square has been long awaited and now it’s time that the project is carried out, not only for the embellishment of St Francis Square and to make it more accessible, but also because the this square, as do others – faces several challenges, including that related to the large amount of traffic which continuously passes though,” said the Minister.

Present for this meeting was the residents and business owners who have a particular interest in the project.

Also present there were stakeholders and Victoria committees, who together with the others discussed the proposal, as well as the concept, design and challenges involving this square.

Dr Caruana explained that, “once the consultation process has ended and the final plans are accepted – which should take about a month – the Ministry for Gozo can submit applications to the authorities concerned..”

The Minister said that she was encouraged by the suggestions from the public, and pointed out that this project is one of several in the pipeline designed to improve the infrastructure and accessibility around Victoria.

She mentioned among others that two studies are ongoing – the ring road around Victoria, and also to identify other sites suitable as parking areas.

Submissions in the consultation must be received by the 26th of January. For details and information on how to submit your comments please see here.
