Large crowds welcomed the triumphal entry of the Magi – ‘La Cavalcata Dei Re Magi into Xaghra square this morning, marking the Feast of the Epiphany.
On this windy Sunday morning, a couple depicting Mary and Joseph carrying the Baby Jesus, crossed through Victory Square to their place in front of the Basilica followed by shepherds and a lamb. A shepherd then paid homage to Baby Jesus and took his place next to them on the Church Parvis.
The three Wise Men on horseback (the Magi) converged on to Victory Square from three different streets. They were accompanied by their pages carrying the three biblical presents, gold, incense and myrrh.
Following a moving star travelling overhead, they crossed the square to arrive in front of the ‘Holy Family,’ and one by one, the presented their gifts and paid homage to the Baby Jesus.
The Magi then entered the Basilica to attend the Celebration of the Eucharist, where they made the offerings at Mass.
