Yesterday, the Citadel in Victoria, went back to the time of the last days of the Order of St John -January 1798.
The Historical Reenactment Group of Malta (HRGM) brought back to life the Citadel of two centuries ago, when visitors were able to participate in an interactive experience throughout the day.
Locals and tourists witnessed a living heritage of the period with reenactments taking place within the ancient streets and passageways of the old city.
They were greeted at the Gate by armed guards, were able to tour the Old Prisons, watch food of the period being prepared, observe military drill, as well as encounter townsfolk while they strolled around the buildings.
The many visitors had the opportunity to take part in free, guided tours and a lecture on Gozitan corsairs of the period.
HRGM is Malta’s leading reenactment society, with an exciting passion for history. Established in 1998, the group brings history back to life through reenactment events featuring the late period of the Knights in Malta, as well as the time of the French Blockade.
