A consultation process has been launched by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana on a regeneration project for Xewkija Square.
Preliminary designs for the project were presented during the meeting which took place in Xewkija, which was followed by comments and suggestions from the public.
“These works have been in the pipeline for some time and now it’s time that the project is carried out,” said the Minister for Gozo.
She added that the work is necessary not just because Xewkija needs a new square, but also because it faces several challenges, including dangers related to the huge influx of traffic passing though that requires good management.
The meeting was attended by members of the Local Council, stakeholders and village committees, who together with the residents, discussed the proposal, as well as the concept, design and challenges involving this square.
This consultation process is expected to conclude at the end of February, following which the Ministry for Gozo can submit applications to the authorities concerned.
Dr Caruana also stated that during this month the consultation process will get underway on St Francis Square in Victoria.
The Minister concluded by saying that during this year the Ministry will be working on various projects in Xewkija, including at Triq il-Knisja and Triq il-Hamrija. “These two streets are among the long list of infrastructure works that will be carried out as part of Project Gozo.”
