Eat Local, Eat Seasonal – is the name of the recipe book which was launched recently by Gozo College Secondary School, during the Parents’ Evening.
Parents and teachers had the opportunity of sampling one of the recipes, namely Carrot Cake, while browsing through the recipes in the book. The book contains a recipe for every month of the year and tips about eating local, eating seasonal and avoiding food waste.
The school said that the book is part of the `We Eat Responsibly’ EkoSkola project and targets eating locally to mitigate loss of varieties and to minimise the distance between field and fork and eating seasonally to avoid processed and frozen foods and the loss of seasonality.
It also targets the dramatic increase of food waste by giving exact portions and servings for each recipe. Every recipe in the book was tried and tested in the home economics labs at the school and all the photos in the book were taken there. Furthermore, there is a ‘fun fact’ for every recipe.
The staff involved in compiling the book were Ms Elise Cassar, Ms Doreen Micallef, Ms Charlene Xuereb, Ms Rosie Spiteri and the Learning Zone students, together with the support of their respective LSAs.
The Learning Support Zone also launched its new logo designed by student Fabio Mercieca at the back of the book. Individual credits can be viewed on the back cover of the book.
A copy of the book was presented to Gozo College Principal Dr Denise Mifsud.
