A Human Rights Activity was held recently at the Sir M.A. Refalo Sixth Form Youth Hub, organised jointly with the Student Representative Council.
Human Rights Day is observed every year on the 10th of December – the day the United Nations General Assembly adopted, in 1948, the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
The students who attended the event were invited to write down `no hate messages’ and attach them to the board to commemorate this day.
The project was funded by Agenzija Zghazagh to celebrate this day and join with the `No Hate. speech campaign. The campaign seeks to decrease the levels of acceptance of hate speech, online and offline.
The SRC and the youth worker prepared plastic heart shape boxes filled with a no hate note that represents love, that were distributed during this activity.
It combats hate speech in all forms, including those that most affect young people, such as cyber-bullying and cyber-hate.
The campaign is based on human rights education, youth participation and media literacy.
The aim of this activity was to bring more awareness among our students and to be more tolerant in front of each other.
The Principal and the Head of School, together with the CEO of Agenzija Zghazagh and the rest of the management, were all present at the Youth Hub.
A small presentation was held on the Human Rights and the youth work service in Gozo. The students were also encouraged to give their opinion on the service of the Youth Hub.
