HSBC Water Programme – Catch the Drop has supported a water conservation project at Gozo College Secondary School – Ilma Gieri.
The aim is to harness the water seeping from surrounding rocks and reuse it for the school’s facilities and irrigation of its garden.
Work involved excavation and construction of a small reservoir in the school’s underground car park to collect the water that previously seeped into the area and went to waste.
The project offered an element of education to the students who were able to witness all aspects of the construction, from plumbing to piping, as well as discover the volume of water saved as a result of the initiative.
This increased understanding of water conservation, which was demonstrated by students during a ceremony held to mark the successful completion of the project.
The event was attended by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana and HSBC Malta CEO Andrew Beane along with other officials.
