Gozo Region awarded funds for community innovation projectsGozo, Northern and Central Regions have been awarded in total €135,000 to implement community innovation projects.

The signing of a Community Innovation Fund Agreement with the Gozo, Northern and Central Regions, was presided over today by Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis.

Victoria Mayor Dr Samuel Azzopardi, as President of the Gozo Region, was present for the meeting.

The Parliamentary Secretary addressed these three regions and stated that upon taking charge of the Parliamentary Secretariat he immediately began working on what would lead to a reform in both local government and local enforcement.

Parnis also stated that the local government reform wants to see a change in the role and powers of the regions.

He went on to say that he understands that in order for the several initiatives and proposals to be accomplished, necessary funds are needed and therefore, through this agreement, these regions will be granted funds to implement projects that will continue to promote social integration, projects that strengthen communities, as well as urban social regeneration projects.

Parnis concluded by stating that he is very positive that with the contribution of all, there will be a reform local government which will serve everyone’s interests, both those operating in the local government and those receiving services from them, whilst also calling for everyone to work collectively so that this reform will be a success.
