Minister for Health Chris Fearne has said he would be submitting a notice to the Clerk of the House to amend Article 10 of the Drug Dependence Act.
These amendments will aim to extend the 2015 Act, to medical cannabis products so that they may be prescribed by doctors, they will also include products manufactured under Good Manufacturing Practice.
He said that the amendments had been necessary after it was found that the 2015 law was difficult to implement and not used even though it had been requested by a large number of patients and doctors.
Dr Fearne explained that it will be a doctor that requests permission for medical cannabis to be issued for a particular patient, which can then only be purchased from a pharmacy using a control card.
