“Gozo had been neglected in Maltese historiography for a number of years,” says publishers Kite Group. “However we have now filled this void by publishing Anton Tabone’s biography penned by Sergio Grech – Anton Tabone: Il-Pont bejn Ghawdex Regjun u Malta Nazzjon.”
Anton Tabone was active in politics from 1966 to 1996. He was elected in all elections held in this period. From 1998 to 2008, he served as Speaker of the House of the Representatives. Furthermore, he was the first minister for Gozo between 1987 and 1996.
In the book, besides Tabone’s biography, Grech dwelt on a number of other interesting topics like the Tabone family’s participation in local politics, the development of the concept of a Minister for Gozo, the Victoria band clubs, hunting in Gozo, the Gozo Civic Council and so on.
The publishers said that there is another important theme that emerged from this book, that of Tabone’s active role in the emergence of a sound communication service between Gozo and Malta.
The last part of the book deals with the effects of Malta joining the European Union on Gozo.
