From this week the free scheme for glucose sticks will be extended to all those in Gozo and Malta who have Type 2 diabetes and are on insulin, the Health Ministry has said.
Diabetes is a condition that affects many Maltese – it is estimated that about 10% of the country population is diabetic.
A pilot project was launched this year to give 4 free glucose sticks a day to those with Type 2 diabetes and are on insulin. It included those who collect their medicines from pharmacies in Gudja, St Julians, Mgarr (Malta) and Kercem, Gozo. This pilot scheme will now be extended across Gozo and Malta.
Those persons who are entitled to the service will receive a letter in the coming weeks from the POYC explaining when they can start collecting the free glucose sticks.
