The 12th Blue Dolphin of Malta International Underwater Photography Competition has just been held in Gozo, organised by the Federation of Underwater Activities Malta.
It was back in 1987 that the first edition of Blue Dolphin of Malta was held, in occasion of a very special event; namely the hosting of the ‘Confederation Mondiale des Activites Subaquatiques’ (CMAS) World Congress in Malta.
The organisers said that following a break of 13 years, the competition was revived this year, but with a new format, reflecting the new digital age in underwater photography.
Winners of the 2017 edition are as follows:
2017 Alfio Scuderi (Italy, Best Picture), Mario Micallef (Malta, Seahorse Class), Loredana Iuranello (Italy, Nudibranch Class)
The photographs that were submitted for judging were taken in one single dive at Reqqa Point, l/o Marsalforn, last Friday, a very stormy day.
The Awards were presented to the winners by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, who said that the Gozo Ministry fully supported the Blue Dolphin Underwater Photographic Competition. “We saw Gozo as we never saw it before, confirming the huge potential of the diving sector in Gozo.”
Official judging results are available online together with photographs from the competitors.
The organisers gave thanks to the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps of Gozo, who assisted in case of emergency at the dive area, and to all the helpers and participants for the teamwork.
