Italy and the UK most popular destinations for outbound tourists

There were 171,411 outbound tourists in the third quarter this year, the National Statistics Office has said. This is an increase of 13.2 per cent on last year.
Outbound tourist trips towards non-EU countries, went up by 44.0 per cent on the same period last year. Italy and the United Kingdom were still the most popular destinations, with a share of 46.6 per cent of total tourist trips.
The third quarter also saw an increase of 8.6 per cent in total nights spent by outbound tourists, surpassing 1.2 million nights.
The NSO noted that in absolute terms, the majority of guest nights were spent in collective accommodation establishments.
€177.6 million, was the total estimated outlay by resident tourists between July and September, up by 9.4 per cent and equivalent to an average €1,036 per trip.
