The Ministry for Gozo, in a statement today, has denied reports that “the Gozo swimming pool project has changed in some way from that originally announced, and that it is now to be turned into a hotel.”
It continued by saying that “the Ministry makes it clear that the project will remain one of sports, which will benefit both Gozitans and Maltese, and will include key physical education sessions for schoolchildren. The pool will also help to attract sports tourism to the island.”
The Ministry said that negotiations on the concession agreement are still ongoing, following the call for submission of interest from the private sector for the construction of a swimming pool.
The Ministry said that the facility will also include a therapeutic swimming pool for rehabilitation purposes, including for disabled persons and patients needing specific therapy treatment.
“This is the Government’s only interest,” the Ministry stated. “Any other activity in this complex should not be based on speculation, but should serve the use of the pool.”
The Ministry said that “the pool project was promised by the previous administrations in 2013 and nothing was done. In contrast, this Government is moving forward and is committed to the work.”
