Exciting afternoon of racing opens Gozo Motocross Championship

The first round of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship 2017/18 took place on Sunday afternoon, organised by the Gozo Motocross Association.
The GMA said that competing riders participated in some of the toughest and most challenging set of races ever seen at Ta’ Xhajma Track.
Races got underway in the afternoon and proved to be an extremely enjoyable and exciting experience both for riders and spectators alike.
There were two Maltese visiting riders who joined their Gozitan friends in great sportsmanship.The GMA said that as usual the event was divided into three categories. In Class A, former champion Etienne Bigeni came in first, followed by Maltese rider Stefan Dimech and Steve Xuereb on his Honda CRF 250cc respectively.
The three riders fought for 1st place, while Keith Bugeja in his debut race with Class A, raced against Robert Spiteri who ended in fourth place followed by Bugeja.
In Category B, Nataniel Camilleri acquired the full 60 points on his Yamaha YZ 250cc, while Joseph Luke Gauci and Brandon Slowe achieved the same amount of points, which put Slowe in a advantageous position according to the Association’s rules.
Godfrey Bigeni followed closely behind, while Jorn Stellini and Frank Xuereb ended in fifth and sixth place respectively.
There were eight riders in Class C.. Matthew Buttigieg debuted for the first time, achieving maximum points. Anthony Fenech on a KTM 144cc came in second place and Matthew Spiteri in third place.The second round of the Yamaha Gozo Motocross Championship will take place on the 12th of November 2017. Riders are always welcome to join in.
