Xlendi Bay closed due to illegally dumped farm wasteXlendi Bay was closed earlier today due to heavy contamination, by what appeared to be illegally dumped farm waste, the Government said in a statement.

It said that this has caused a blockage in an major artery, which resulted in an overflow into the valley and down to the beach.

Workers from the Water Services Corporation are in site and “are doing their best to remove this mess and halt the flow to the sea as soon as possible,” the statement said.

The Ministry of Energy and Water Management apologised to the public for the inconvenience, and “condemned the behaviour by irresponsible people for illegally dumping the material, without any consideration to public health, and all the consequences it caused.”
