Fr Gorg Grima founder of Gozitan Missionary Movement passes away

The Gozo Diocese announced the death this morning of Father Gorg Grima, founder of Gozitan Missionary Movement ‘Jesus in thy Neighbour.’
In 2012 the Missionary Movement founded by Father Gorg celebrated its 25th Anniversary and since its very inception the Movement took the responsibility to care for those children that are orphans or are suffering with AIDS or they have any form of physical or mental disability. All the children supported by the Movement are under twelve years of age.
Father Gorg Grima also opened an eye clinic in Ethiopia in 2013, where many children and adults are being seen for conditions such as cataracts as well as other problems.
Father Gorg Grima was born in Victoria, Gozo, in December 1950. He was the second of ten children. He received his education in the primary school in Victoria and continued his studies for priesthood in the Seminary of the Heart of Jesus in Victoria.
He was ordained by Bishop, Nikol Cauchi on the 18th of June, 1977. On the 21st of September 1977, he went on his first mission to Brazil. He started his missionary work in the diocese of Londrina.
After three years working in this diocese, he went to work in another diocese of Bahia and then worked for another seven years in the diocese of Mariana, state of Minas Gerais.
Whilst he was in Minais Gerais, he built homes for orphaned children coming from poor families. He gave them food, education and medicine. On the 3rd of December 1987, he founded ‘Missionary Movement Jesus in thy Neighbour’ and from that day, started his work in Africa.
His funeral will take place this Thursday, the 28th of September:
At 4.00pm: His remains will be laid for public homage at St James’ Church, Independence Square, Victoria
At 4:30pm: Solemn Celebration of the Office of the Dead at St James Church, with the Collegiate Chapter of St George.
At 5.00pm: Funeral High Mass led by E.T. Mgr. Mario Grech, Bishop of Gozo, in the Basilica of St George.
