12th Qala International Folk Festival opens this Friday

Qala International Folk Festival 2017This Friday, sees the opening of the 3-day 12th Qala International Folk Festival, organised by the Qala Local Council and the Qala Menhir Folk Group.

The Festival is a firm favourite on the Gozo cultural calendar, when visitors to Qala will be able to live a few days in the past, savouring the unique atmosphere, of music, dance and costumes

The picturesque village of Qala, will be transformed into a hub of folk activities that give an insight into the way our ancestors thought and lived in these islands and in other countries.

Guest foreign folk groups will be participating during the days of the festival and this intercultural programme has grown to attract locals and visitors for its quality entertainment.

The 3-day programme of events will be as follows:

Friday, 22nd of September

7.30pm – Defile & musical programme by ‘Ite Ad Joseph’ band.

8.00pm – Opening ceremony of the Qala International Folk Festival. Performances by Akragas Folk Dance Group (Sicily), Tallinn University of Technology Kuljus Dance Ensemble (Estonia), Menhir Qala Folk Group (Qala, Gozo).

9.00pm -Traditional Maltese folk dinner at St. Joseph Square. Entertainment by Keith Anthony

Saturday, 23rd of September

9.30am – Qala International Folk Conference Theme: Fortifications in Gozo.

8.00pm – Akragas Folk Dance Group (Sicily), Tallinn University of Technology Kuljus Dance Ensemble (Estonia),The Turning Point Dance Theatre (Nadur, Gozo), Astra Folk Group (Victoria, Gozo.), Menhir Qala Folk Group (Qala, Gozo).

9.45pm – Concert by Novel (band).

Sunday, 24th of September

6 30pm – Musical programme by ‘Ite Ad Joseph’ band.

7.30pm – Final ceremony of the Qala International Folk Festival. Performances by Menhir Qala Folk Group (Qala, Gozo), Akragas Folk Dance Group (Sicily), Tallinn University of Technology Kuljus Dance Ensemble (Estonia), Aurora Folk Group (Victoria, Gozo).
