The Gozo opera season is almost upon us, with preparations by both the La Stella Philharmonic Society and the Leone Philharmonic Society well underway.
With this in mind, the Ministry for Gozo has announced a new scheme that will allow a diverse range of people to get closer to these culture events in Gozo, said Minister Justyne Caruana during the launch of – Opera Scheme 2017.
“This scheme is aimed towards active seniors and people with disabilities, who assist in the community in some way through volunteer work. We believe in an inclusive society where everyone has the right to live a decent life, as well as take part in, and enjoy what the island has to offer,” explained Minister Caruana.
The Minister thanked the hundreds of volunteers, without whom the opera and other initiatives would not be possible, giving their spare time and energy for culture and the arts in Gozo. She also thanked the Arts Council Malta for the financial support provided year after year, as well as the private entities that believe in these initiatives.
“Culture, in all its forms, is a strong brand in Gozo, making the island a cultural destination throughout the year, and therefore a valuable asset that the Ministry and all those involved, should safeguard and promote,” concluded Minister Justyne Caruana.
Applications for the scheme must be submitted to the Director Customer Services within the Ministry For Gozo, by not later than the 7th of October for the Opera Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci, and the 21st of October for the Opera Lucia di Lammermoor.
Applications are available for download here.
