The Xaghra Local Council has announced the opening of a new local library in Racecourse Street, Xaghra. The library will be inaugurated tomorrow at 12.30 p.m. by the Prime Minister, Dr. Lawrence Gonzi.
This library is to be named after Fr. Gigi Camilleri S.J. of Xaghra who was a missionary in India for 44 years, acted as a headmaster for several years and wrote extensive articles about Xaghra in the past.
After negotiations between the Council, the Department of Local Libraries and the Malta College of Science and Technology (M.C.A.S.T.), the Council is now providing its residents with a modern library which is suitable for today’s needs.
The Council will also be signing two agreements with the Director of Local Libraries and the Chief Executive Officer of M.C.A.S.T. for the management of this local library.
The Council wishes to express its gratitude to all those who contributed towards this project especially the contractors involved, the Department of Local Libraries and the Board of Governors of M.C.A.S.T. for their continous support to realise this important project for the Xaghra community.
The Council also cordially invites the general public to attend the inauguration ceremony.
