The celebrations for the Feast of the Nativity of Our Lady in Xaghra, were postponed on Friday evening due to the inclement weather, instead the procession took place last night.
Large crowds from Xaghra and other villages, welcome the procession with the statue of Maria Bambina as they left from the Basilica, led by Bishop George Bugeja OFM, with the Collegiate Chapter and clergy, to go round the streets of the village.
The statue has just returned to Xaghra following its extensive restoration by the company Atelier del Restauro in Malta.
The conservation of the fine 19th century crowned statue of Maria Bambina, was carried out by conservator Valentina Lupo.
The statue was commissioned in 1878 to the French company ‘Galard et Fils’ from Marseilles.
