The position taken by the General Workers Union, regarding the re-introduction of public holidays falling on weekends, is being supported by Zminijietna – Voice of the Left.
Zminijietna in a statement said that “these holidays were removed by the previous right wing administration, under the impression that this was only meant to be a temporary measure”.
It added, that it is also in favour of the GWU proposal to have all workers who work on public holidays to be paid at a rate of three hours for every hour worked, whilst those working on Sundays are paid at the rate of two hours for every hour worked.
Zminijietna – Voice of the Left, concluded by saying that “with regards to the minimum wage income, the Government should introduce amendments so that the increase in the minimum wage is introduced immediately, from the first day of employment.”
