The Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana has had a courtesy meeting with the Maltese Olympic Committee, which took place at the Ministry for Gozo.
The Minister remarked that Gozo offers a level of sports facilities that should be exploited more by national associations, which in turn would help to attract more sports tourism to our country
She also stressed that the Government is committed to continue to invest in sports facilities in Gozo, with Gozitan athletes steadily making a name for themselves as well as for the country.
The Minister said that various topics of a sporting nature were discussed, as well as the further strengthening of the relationship between the Ministry for Gozo and the Maltese Olympic Committee.
One important topic on the agenda was the contribution Gozo can offer nationally, when it is Malta’s turn to host the Games of the Small States of Europe in 2023.
“Gozo should be included in the calendar to hold sporting events during these important games, because it is a part of Malta,” said Minister Caruana.
The 2018 Commonwealth Games is to be held on the Gold Coast in Australia, and Gozo will be hosting the Queen’s Baton Relay along the tour to tits final destination in Australia.
This Queen’s Baton will arrive in Gozo on Saturday, the 23rd September and visit the locations of Ghasri and Ghajnsielem.
