Nadur maintains highest number of book loans among branch libraries

Once again, the Nadur branch library in Gozo, maintained the highest number of loans registered among the branch libraries in this region, as it also did in 2015 and 2014.
Book loans at the Gozo Central Library amounted to 28,34 in 2016, 31,760 in 2015 and 29,280 in 2014. In the Gozo branch libraries the figures were 114,468 in 2016, 102,785 in 2015 and 70,903 in 2014.
Malta Libraries data for 2016 indicate that book loans from public libraries amounted to 844,598 – an increase of 8.6 per cent over the preceding year.
The number of book acquisitions by public libraries stood at 45,054, an increase of 14.5 per cent when compared to 2015 levels, 390 were eBooks.
Acquisitions by means of purchases decreased marginally. This drop was however offset by acquisitions through donations, the NSO said.
5,186 new members were registered by public libraries, falling by 1,065 or 17.0 per cent. This drop was recorded for both adults and junior members of 7.6 and 23.2 per cent respectively.
