Xewkija hosted an evening of Giochi – it’s a knockout this week, as part of the festival Fiori d’Argenta and the feast of the Martrydom of St John the Baptist.
Large crowds turned out to cheer on the 4 teams taking part in the games and to support the young, local talent providing the entertainment for the evening.
The event was held in the main square, and consisted of the Giochi for youths, games such as tug of wars for the adults, fun games for children, entertainment and local food stalls.
The 4 teams were composed from different entities of Xewkija, with youths, footballers, altar boys and seniors taking part in the games.
The organisers said that it was a great night and thanked the Xewkija Local Council, especially the Mayor Mr Paul Azzopardi and the Archpriest Mgr. Daniel Xerri, for making it all possible.
The 4 participating teams were The Raiders, Black Stallions, Armar United and Kumitat Zghazagh Xewkin.
A new set of games were introduced for this 4th edition of Giochi – and after 8 very exciting games, it ended with a draw between Armar United and Kumitat Zghazagh Xewkin with 25 points each, followed by the Black Stallions 16 points and The Raiders with 15 points.
So it came down to a tug of war to decide the winning team for the night, which was Armar United, who will now go on to represent Xewkija in the finals at Marsalforn on the 17th of September, starting at 6.00pm.
The winning team was presented with a trophy and medals by the Mayor Paul Azzopardi, and all the participants were presented with medals by the Mayor and the Xewkija Archpriest Fr Daniel Xerri.
