Anyone who returned to Gozo or Malta and had to renounce their Australian citizenship under the Australian Citizenship Act 1948, can now apply to regain the citizenship.
Approximately 2,000 people from Gozo and Malta, who previously lost their Australian citizenship due to this act, can now reapply for it under a new law passed this week by the Australian Senate.
The Australian government has not extended this right to the children of those who lost their citizenship, such children will be given the right to apply for Australian citizenship only if they return to Australia with their parents.
