A Family Writing Activity was held recently at the Citadel in Gozo, led by Silvana Cardona and Edith Bondin.
The event was organised by the National Literacy Agency and was attended by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana.
Families participated in a range of writing strategies inspired by the historic, majestic surroundings, which led to the creation and writing of a postcard.
Speaking at the event, Dr Caruana stressed how such initiatives are important for several aspects. First and foremost is the positive interactive learning experience that children are enjoying with their families and teachers.
The Minister added that, it is also an opportunity for children to appreciate a historical site such as the Citadel, while at the same time, and in the most direct way, to learn about its history.
“Various events are being held to promote the Citadel as a lively place filled with different activities for all ages and tastes,” commented Minister Caruana.
She urged the Agency to hold further initiatives and national programmes such as the writing activity and assured them that the Ministry will provide all the necessary support.
Towards the end of the writing activity, families were entertained with a folkloristic dance and music performance by members of the Aurora Folk Group of Gozo.
The Agency thanked the Minister for Gozo, Merlin Publishers the sponsor for all such writing activities, the Aurora Folk Group, all families who attended and “the fantastic writing tutors!”
