Comino afforestation project to start, 3,600 trees to be planted

Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change José Herrera, has announced that over 8,000 trees will be planted by the end of this year, through a national afforestation project.
This will include a process of afforestation on Comino due to get underway soon, where around 3,600 trees will be planted, the Minister said.
“The Government recognises the importance of planting trees around our islands in a continuing effort to improve our surroundings,” said the Minister. He also thanked the Directorate for PARKS on their intensive work to find suitable sites for this initiative.
These native trees are being planted in around 60 valleys across Gozo and Malta, including Wied Blandun, Swatar, Marsaxlokk and Bahar ic-Caghaq.
Minister Herrera also asked for cooperation from the public against dumping etc, saying that these valleys “are the lungs of our country,” He added that the Ministry is working on a plan to improve environmental enforcement.
