Comino Feast gets underway on Thursday with days of celebrationsThis coming Thursday, Festa ta’ Kemmuna – Traditional Comino Feast, gets underway on Comino, with three days of celebrations dedicated to Saint Mary.

Detailed restoration of the statue of Our Lady of Comino was carried out last year by Gozitan artist Manuel Farrugia from Victoria and funded by the Ministry for Gozo.

The 1948 statue of St Mary, is by artist Wistin Camilleri, and was donated by Captain Charles Vassallo.

The organisers said that following many requests they decided to add another day to the feast programmed, this is dedicated to the younger generation and to promote local talents. With this mind a live concert is planned for Thursday night, with the band Upper Lip.

The event is from 8.00 pm till midnight. “Boats to Comino and back are organised from Cirkewwa and Marfa in Malta, and Mgarr Gozo, in front of the Gozo Channel terminal entrance.”

The concert is taking place in the Santa Marija bay area – behind the church, which, the organisers said is in a valley 2 minutes walk from the boats. Take away foods and drinks will be available on site. Free entrance.
