Plenty of fun in the water and on the slippery pole at Marsalforn

On Sunday, the Marsalforn Watersports Festival was held for the second consecutive year. With an action-packed afternoon of watersports.
The promenade was full of supporters cheering on the competitors taking part in the canoe races – including single and double canoe competitions, swimming competitions and the main attraction, as always, the Gostra (slippery pole).
Many children, youths and even adults, participated in the canoe races and the swimming competitions, with about 14 competitors brave enough to chance their luck on the Gostra.The winners in the swimming competitions were Matthew Bonello (Under 6), Zack Bajada (Under 10), Chris Tyler (under 16) and for the adults Anthony Cremona (over 21).
For the canoe singles competitions the winner was Chris Tyler. The canoe doubles competition winners were Sasha and Maya Cremona (Under 13), Chris Tyler and Marcel Grech (under 16) and for the adults over 21 the winners were Anna and Emma Xuereb.Competitors for the Gostra were allowed 9 attempts each, the winner was Jurgen Attard from Xewkija, who grabbed the Maltese flag to a background of cheering from the many spectators.
The show, compared by Mr Joe Louis Xiberras and Ms Sandra Grech, came to an end with the presentation of trophies to all the winners by the Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana.
The giochiknockout team together with the Kumitat Amministrattiv Marsalforn thanked the Ministry of Gozo, the Gozo Sports Board, Zebbug Local Council and EcoGozo for their support for this week of great watersports events, as well as Alain Salvary (Gozo News).
The next Watersport event to be held in Marsalforn is the Giochi it’s a Knockout final on Sunday, the 17th of September.
