Comino feast – Festa ta’ Kemmuna: 3 days of celebrations for St Mary

For the third consecutive year, Festa ta’ Kemmuna – Traditional Comino Feast that is dedicated to Saint Mary, will be taking place on the island of Comino.
This year the feast celebrations will be held over three days starting on Thursday, the 17th of August.
Detailed restoration of the statue of Our Lady of Comino was carried out last year by Gozitan artist Manuel Farrugia from Victoria and funded by the Ministry for Gozo.
The 1948 statue of St Mary, is by artist Wistin Camilleri, and was donated by Captain Charles Vassallo.
Santa Marija beach is equipped with toilets and showers where visitors can have a free shower and prepare for the feast starting at 7pm each evening.
For those who are not so familiar to the island of Comino, kindly take care to wear comfortable footwear due to the sandy roads. Thursday 17th August
7.00pm – Opening of the Religious Festive Activities in honour of Saint Mary: Holy Rosary + reflections.
8.00pm – Opening of Outside Festive Activities for the family.
9.00pm – Live Concert by the band Upper Lip.
Friday 18th August
7.00pm- Holy Mass for children.
7.30pm – Vigil prayer in honour of Our Lady.
8.30pm – Activities for Children.
8.30pm – Traditional Maltese Feast Dinner.
9.00pm onwards – Live Concert by the band Novel.
Saturday 19th August
7.00pm – Traditional feast High Mass concelebrated by Bishop Mario Grech, open-air in front of the church.
8.00pm – A procession with the statue of Saint Mary from the church to Saint Mary’s Quay accompanied by the Ghajnsielem Band where the blessing of the boats ceremony will be held followed by a Eucharist Benediction.
8.30pm – Festive Marches by St. Joseph Band of Ghajnsielem.
9.00prn – Live concert by popular singer Freddie Portelli.
Transport from Cirkewwa, Marfa and Mgarr Gozo to Comino and back from 9.00am till midnight, by one of the several Comino boats that will be available throughout the day. Boat trips are with a charge and this fare should be paid direct to boat owners.
