A group of over a hundred grandparents from Malta, led by Mr Philip Chircop, founder of Nanniet Malta, visited Gozo on Saturday, to celebrate the feast St. Joachim and St. Anne, the married couple traditionally honoured as the parents of the Virgin Mary, mother of Jesus.
Nanniet Malta, as they have done for the past four years, celebrated the feast with a Mass at Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, broadcast on TVM 2. The feast is celebrated around the world on the 26th of July.
The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, was invited to attend the Mass, after which she met with a group of other Gozitan and Maltese grandparents, who joined the group for the celebration.
The Minister said that the support she gave the grandparents as a Parliamentary Secretary, she will now be continuing as Minister, especially as the Foundation has a Gozo section.
Dr Caruana remarked that grandparents are the backbone of our families, because without their help and support, many families with young children would have great difficulties in coping with a work-life balance.
Philip Chircop, on behalf of the Foundation, thanked the Minister for her support over the past four years.
He also reiterated the cooperation of the Gozo group to collaborate with the Ministry for Gozo in organising more activities in the future for Gozo grandparents.
