The announcement by Air Malta of the reintroduction of the Malta-Frankfurt route, as from the next Winter Season, has been welcomed by the Gozo Tourism Association. The closure of this route in March was of a concern to the tourist industry on the Maltese Islands, it said.
The GTA added that “this is an important step to re-establishing additional connectivity and seat capacity in winter from Germany, which is one of Malta’s tourism core markets, apart from the fact that Frankfurt is Germany’s main airport, and one of the busiest in Europe.”
The Association pointed out that “it is hoped that the re-opening of this route is based on growth. therefore ensuring that Air Malta services this route for more that just one season.”
Concluding its statement, the GTA said that it believes that Air Malta, as the national carrier, apart from most importantly looking after its commercial interest, also has a mission to cater for the national interest.
