Update 2: In a further update this afternoon the Malta Tourism Authority has said that due to adverse weather conditions at the point of departure, the P-51 aircraft cannot be flown to Malta.
As a result, tomorrow’s flight over Grand Harbour has been cancelled. The Malta Tourism Authority said that it regrets any inconvenience.
The flight had originally been with a Spitfire, then yesterday, due to technical problems it was changed to a P-51.
A series of events are being planned this year to commemorate the anniversary of the bestowment of the George Cross medal and the citation by King George VI to the Maltese for their courage and endurance during WW II.
A group of 40 members of the Royal Air Squadron (UK) will be visiting Malta in mid July, and they will be enjoying a special programme of activities that will emphasise the RAF’s connection to Malta during World War II and in later years.
