Zminijietna, the left think-tank organisation, has said that it fully supports the initiative taken by the Government to introduce a free school transport system, for all primary and secondary students, be it in state, independent and church schools.
It added that the opposition party in Parliament is also of the same opinion.
Zminijietna – Voice of the Left pointed out that “this initiative, if implemented correctly, should reduce traffic congestion and pollution, during rush hours. The Government should also consider an obligatory system, rather than an optional one.”
“The introduction of a subsidy scheme, to those workers making use of public transport regularly to go to work, could be another useful measure to shift dependency from private cars,” stated Zminijietna.
“Use of bicycles should also be incentivised, both by the state and the private sector,” concluded Zminijietna – Voice of the Left.
