A planning permit which was granted last January within the protected heritage site of Ghar Gherduf in Kercem, Gozo, was withdrawn by the Planning Board today in an unanimous decision.
In a statement, the Board said that “there was enough justification to withdraw the permit on the grounds that the error which led to the incorrect assessment of the planning application had a sound bearing on the final decision taken by the Planning Commission.”
A development permit had been granted for a two storey terraced house last January. The Board said that, “when the application was being processed, the Planning Directorate assessed the site as a Class B Archaeological area. Government records show that the site of Ghar Gherduf and its 100m buffer zone were protected as a Class A category in October 2000.”
It noted that, “the same discrepancy also appeared on the Authority’s online system which is used by the Planning Directorate when assessing planning applications.”
