Tomorrow evening, a special edition of – Big Band Adventures – by Nadur’s Mnarja Philharmonic Band, will commemorate the 50th Anniversary since its inception and 25 years under the musical direction of Mro Joseph Grech.
This anniversary event is being organised by the Mnarja Philharmonic Society with the collaboration of the Nadur Local Council and the Ministry for Gozo to mark the feast of St Peter and St Paul – patron saints of Nadur village in Gozo.
The Mnarja band has been organising this spectacular concert over the last 25 years, and has introduced new repertoire and music arrangements every year. It said that the genre was very innovative to Gozo “and has enticed other local bands to follow suit.”
“This year’s concert includes more musical arrangements never performed on Gozo by local bands,” the Society said, namely: “Africa, Classic Hit Mix No.1, An Operatic Nightmare, Barcelona, Hans Zimmer Movie Milestones, The Best of Abba, Stars of Rock’ N Roll, The Boney M. Megamix, Hermes House Band.”
The Mnarja Band will join forces on the night with local band The Travellers, with their hit song `Semplicita.’
The band will be under the direction of its Music Director Mro Joseph Grech and guest singers: Gozitans Christine Camilleri and Ruth Portelli Bezzina and Italian pop singer Francesco Joseph Nicodeme.
Big Band Adventures is taking place at St Peter and St Paul’s Square, Nadur tomorrow evening, Wednesday, the 21st of June, starting at 9.00pm.
The general public is invited to attend and entrance is free of charge. A reception will follow.
