The Nature of Metal – Sculpture and Jewellery exhibition, which is an unusual exploration of art in metal by three Gozo designer/makers, has been so well received by visitors it has been extended and will now remain open until Sunday, the 2nd of July.
Metal artists Jackie Roberts and Mario Cordina, and jeweller Rachel Robinson, each demonstrate a unique approach to the theme.
The exhibition has over forty pieces of work including original 2D & 3D sculpture hand-crafted in mild steel, copper and brass; some incorporating repurposed scrap metal; and a collection of designer jewellery in sterling silver.
The artists said that “mostly inspired by the landscape; flora and fauna; culture and environment of the Maltese Islands, the work demonstrates the contemporary artistic use of traditional design and craft skills while exploring the essential nature of various metals.”
The exhibition is open from 9am-5pm daily at Il-Hagar – Heart of Gozo Museum, St George’s Square, Victoria, Gozo. Admission is free.
All the artists will be at the venue for an informal tour of the exhibition this coming Sunday, the 11th of June from 9.30-11am and at other times by arrangement.
