Ta-Cawla housing estate residents receive grant for photovoltaic panels

Minister for Gozo Anton Refalo paid a visit to the Tac-Cawla houses estate where he presented a financial grant to residents of the apartments.
Towards the end of 2014, the EcoGozo Regional Development Directorate within the Ministry for Gozo started a project installing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of of these government apartments.
The Ministry said the project was commissioned in May 2016 and the panels started generating electricity on the national grid. Altogether 231 panels were set on metallic structures and spread over fifteen block of apartments. The panels generate up to 69.3 kW.
The residents will benefit from the accumulated credits of the panels through financial assistance. At a meeting on the housing estate, Dr Refalo said that in addition to reducing electricity and water bills, it will also assist residents in financial terms.
Dr Refalo said that “the quality of life in Gozo continues to improve through continuous investment in education, the environment, economic development, and social progress.”
He reiterated the Government’s promise to improve and also raise the standard of living of the residents of housing estates. “This project meets the criteria of environmental sustainability while addressing the socio-economic needs of the residents of the housing estate,” concluded The Minister for Gozo.
