Gharb commemorates the 50th anniversary of Frenc tal-Gharb

The Gharb Local Council, on Friday evening organised a commemorative event for the 50th anniversary since the death of Frenc tal-Gharb.
In front of the monument dedicated to this humble farmer, the Basilica Choir `Hebron,’ under the direction of Mro Antoine Mercieca animated the evening, while a number of poems were read for the occasion.
The spiritual character of Frenc tal-Gharb was expressed by Rev. Dr. Joe Bezzina in a speech which he delivered during the evening.
A visual interview was also shown with an elderly Gozitan lady who currently lives in Australia, reliving her memories of Frenc ta’ Gharb.
The Mayor of Gharb Mr. David Apap emphasised that the Council was doing its best to keep the memory alive of those people from Gharb who had contributed in some way over the years.
Present for the event were the Mayor, Council Members, Anton Tabone President Emeritus of the House of Representatives, Magistrate Paul Coppini, Arch Priest Mgr Traver Sultana and the Basilica Chapter, together with a large number of parishioners and other guests who attended for the evening.
A thanksgiving Mass was held at the Basilica before the open-air event.
An open day took place at the residence of Frenc tal-Gharb and many Maltese and foreigners visited his house which can be found a few meters away for the Monument dedicated to Frenc tal-Gharb.
Late morning Rev Arch Priest, with the locals said the Rosary inside the main yard of the house which was then transmitted on Radio Maria.
