“The Nationalist Party has put Gozo to the forefront because, for the first time in history an electoral manifesto has been presented just for Gozo.”
This was stated by the Leader of the Nationalist Party Simon Busuttil during a political activity in Nadur yesterday.
He said that this in itself sends out a message that Gozo has special importance for the Nationalist Party, giving it a particular identity that needs to have the respect it deserves. The Leader of the Nationalist Party said that if there was a lesson that the PN had learned in 2013, it was that, and it would not be repeating it.
Dr Busuttil said reiterated that a new Nationalist Government is committed to starting the project of a permanent link between Gozo and Malta.
He went on to say that in order to ensure that the identity of Gozo remains distinct and separate from Malta, a Nationalist Government is willing to first recognise Gozo as an island region in the Constitution of Malta, creating a Gozo Regional Council for Gozitans.
Simon Busuttil said the current budget of € 1 million for roads will increase to € 4 million a year to improve residential roads. He also pledged to rebuild Gozo’s main arterial roads – Marsalforn- Victoria, Nadur-Victoria, Xaghra- Victoria and Zebbug-Victoria, with an investment of € 65 million.
A problem that exists in Gozo, said Simon Busuttil, is the fact that more and more young people are leaving the island. He said that nobody seems to want to talk about this problem, but the PN is not afraid to face the challenge and therefore proposes that a financial incentive of € 10,000 to help Gozitan couples start a new lift in Gozo.
The Head of the Nationalist Party reiterated his commitment to the Gozo General Hospital being returned to Gozo.
