Two new sports infrastructure projects announced for Gozo

The Ministry for Gozo has said that two infrastructure projects it had proposed have qualified, and been approved to receive European Funds for the further improvement of sports facilities in Gozo.
Gozo Minister, Dr Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg announced the two projects, one at Ulysses Grove Xewkija – consisting of tracks, for walking, running and cycling and the other – an outdoor multi-sports facility at the Gozo Sports Complex in Victoria.
Dr Refalo spoke about the importance of sport and physical activity for a better quality of life, and said that these projects have an estimated investment of € 400,000 of which € 200,000 will be from European Funds.
The Minister also mentioned the swimming pool project in Gozo – he said that this facility will not only be used by athletes, but will also include a therapeutic swimming pool for rehabilitation purposes.
Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg stated that more than 2,000 people are expected to benefit from the two projects.
Dr. Ian Borg explained that another important call is expected to be announced in the near future for investment in similar sports infrastructure projects in the community. He said that for this call an allocation of € 5m has been indicated.
