Gozitan students who have successfully completed the course in Care of the Elderly have been awarded their certificates during a presentation ceremony held in Gozo.
During her address at the ceremony, Parliamentary Secretary for Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, stressed that this event was special for several reasons. It was the first time the course had been undertaken in Gozo, and also the first time on a part-time basis.
“This meant that the students had been given the opportunity to take this course which is accredited by the University of Malta and also meant that people who had never dreamed of taking this step, were given the opportunity to be trained and achieve a qualification that will ultimately allow them to work in the care sector,” Dr Caruana said.
Dr Caruana added that thousands of elderly in Gozo will benefit through the enthusiasm and courage shown by these students in choosing this path of care, which has become essential, indeed vital, for Gozo and Malta, particularly with the increasingly ageing population.
Parliamentary Secretary Caruana concluded by thanking all the students who attended the course and the teachers who helped them with so much dedication to achieve their goals. At the same time she urged all those interested in attending similar courses which are accredited by the University of Malta, to come forward and express their interest.
Also in attendance at the event were the Pro-Rector for Academic Affairs at the University of Malta, Professor Joseph Cacciatore and the Chief Executive Officer of St Vincent De Paul, Dr Josianne Cutajar.
