new free course has been launched for the elderly in Gozo, with the theme EM Citizen (electronic mobile). This course will be provided to all elderly persons from May, and is being undertaken in collaboration with the Parliamentary Secretariat for Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing and the company TCTC.
In a modern digital society where Smart Phones and Tablets are practically taking over PC’s and Laptops, TCTC has evolved this innovative and informal type of education for their audience.
Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana made the announcement and she expressed satisfaction that, again, the elderly of Gozo will have the opportunity to discover and further strengthen the knowledge that perhaps they already have in the field of technology.
She said it is the commitment of the Secretariat is to have an inclusive society, and it incorporates literacy in the field of technology.
Dr Caruana stressed that this is a unique opportunity where seniors can open up new horizons in terms of material and technological devices that they perhaps have little experience with, therefore keeping themselves active and updated with technological change, as well as an improvement in their quality of life.
The Parliamentary Secretary praised TCTC’s commitment to this project, and urged all elderly in Gozo to attend these courses, which are the initiative of the Secretariat, and are being offered for free. “This is done so that the elderly keep themselves active and included in our society,” Dr Caruana concluded.
