New Active Ageing Centre inaugurated in Sannat, Gozo

A new Active Ageing Centre has been inaugurated in Sannat, by the Parliamentary Secretary for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and Active Ageing Justyne Caruana, together with the Mayor of Sannat Mr Philip Vella.
This Centre is the third of its kind in Gozo, following on from those of Xewkija and Ta’ Cawla in Victoria. Dr Caruana said that the Government’s commitment to carry out the strategy of active ageing is a national one.
She pointed out that this project incorporates not only typical elements of conventional centres, such as get-togethers etc. for the elderly, but also embraces concepts which uses their abilities, helping them to remain active.
Among the programme of activities carried out, are physical exercises, information technology lessons, talks by individuals representing different entities, and outings.
Parliamentary Secretary Caruana thanked the local council of Sannat, chaired by Philip Vella, for their assistance and collaboration with the Secretariat in carrying out this imitative.
She added that through the active involvement of the councils, the elderly now have the opportunity to attend and enjoy activities, as well as to increase their knowledge on various topics.
Dr Caruana concluded by urging those present for the first session in the Sannat Centre, to attend regularly for the sessions and to keep themselves active.
