The Parliamentary Secretariat for the Rights of Persons with Disability and Active Ageing has prepared a programme of activities, sessions and initiatives during the month of April, in aid of people with autism, their families and all stakeholders involved.
Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana announced this at a briefing on inclusive education held at the Ghajnsielem Learning Hub, Gozo, for parents of children attending local schools.
During the meeting several experts from the Department of Education provided information about the services offered, as well as the processes involved for each service. They also distributed informational materials on various other services offered by the Government through the Sapport Agency.
All those present, along with Parliamentary Secretary Justyne Caruana, participated in the campaign by Autism Europe and symbolically repeated the gesture being used to overcome obstacles, prejudice and discrimination.
At the end of the meeting Parliamentary Secretary Caruana announced a scheduled meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on Social Affairs to begin consultations on the composition of the Council provided for in the law that the government specially prepared – Persons within the Autism Spectrum (Empowerment) Act, giving it the attention it truly deserves.
Dr Justyne Caruana thanked those parents who had attended and the experts for their input at the meeting.
“Such meetings show just how many are eager for more knowledge about the procedures within the Government for children with disabilities, to help them and their families enjoy a more inclusive life, both in schools and in the community,” concluded Dr Justyne Caruana.
