Works underway on the Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry Campus in Gozo.
As already announced, demolition works on the Barts Campus in Gozo started on Friday, subsequent to the final green light having been given by the Planning Authority.
Vitals Global Healthcare explained that several enabling works have been carried out, including the transfer of pharmacy stores, the transfer of the ambulance garage, and the transfer of the maintenance stores to temporary locations across the hospital grounds.
These old structures are being demolished to make way for excavation and piling works, which VGH said, will start next week.
“Foundation works are expected to take around 8 weeks, after which the erection of the building will begin. This will be a frame structure composed of concrete columns and a proprietary roofing system. The facility will house state of the art installations, making it a leader as far as medical education facilities are concerned,” said VGH.
The construction site has been hoarded off, ensuring that construction works have as little impact on hospital operations as possible. VGH said that marshals and security personnel are on site directing people accordingly.
A reminder that as from tomorrow, so as to mitigate parking issues on site, a park and ride service for all patients and staff has also been established through a joint effort between Hospital Management and the Ministry for Gozo.
The shuttle service will operate between hospital grounds and the Malta Dairy products site in Xewkija as of tomorrow, Monday, the 20th of March, between 6.30am and 7.30pm, excluding Sundays and Public Holidays.
VGH said that in addition, its management is in discussions with government entities to see that access to the hospital is further enhanced.
