Government reacts to the collapse of the Azure Window in DwejraUpdate with video – The Minister for Tourism Edward Zammit Lewis and the Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment and Climate Change Jose Herrera issued a statement today on the collapse of the Azure Window in Dwejra.

The Tourism Minister said that “the country has now lost a tourist gem. This morning as everyone knows the Azure Window collapsed completely, an icon that is synonymous with the island of Gozo. This news also drew international attention, with various news sites reporting what happened, giving a sense of solidarity with us as a country.”

He added that “however great this national loss is, it does not mean that Gozo has lost its tourism potential or has nothing else to offer. The Azure Window itself forms part of environmental area of great importance, recognised as a Natura 2000 site as well as by UNESCO.
