The alfombristas international commission entity of ephemeral art is organising an event in Victoria Gozo, between 9th and 12th March.
This is a project of great socio cultural importance to be held in conjunction with the conference of the Peripheral Maritime regions of Europe (CPMR), which will gather the Presidents of the peripheral maritime regions of Europe.
It will be the first joint activity of the International Commission for 2017. This activity will give visibility to ephemeral art in an appropriate frame, working at the same time to give importance to the Conference of Regional EU Presidents.
A total of 10 carpets will be created, nine of which will have the shape of a stylised flower petal. These will be presented together, meaning the willingness of working together for a common project of ephemeral art.
The organisers said that it is a symbol of binding union, even with the objectives of the conference. The 10th carpet will include the flag of the European Community, with the institutional logos of the participants in the conference of the Communities Presidents.
Around one hundred alfombristas will create their works of art along the street leading to the Citadel in Victoria a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
An exhibition of ephemeral art carpets with a variety of designs, techniques, materials, and flowers will fill the asphalt with art and colour, showing values, quality and professionalism of the alfombristas coming from five Spanish delegations, three Italians, one Belgian, and one Maltese, members of the international Commission, as well as other alfombristas groups and visitors.
On Friday 10th March in the afternoon, the official inauguration will be held as part of the programme of the Presidents Conference in the presence of Maltese Government members, representatives who will be present for the conference together with local and foreign visitors. This will be followed by an institutional dinner, which will be held with the authorities and the alfombristas.
The international commission directive board said that it would like to thank all alfombristas of each delegation for their effort to participate in this event.
The commission would also like to thank the Ministry for Gozo, the Infiorata foundation of Gharb and its Council for its help and trust, “so that together we can exhibit – A wonder of the World.”
